Why we verify identity

Most problems on task marketplaces start with someone pretending to be a person they are not. Verifying identity once, properly, makes fake accounts and impersonation far harder and gives both sides confidence to meet and work.

What happens when you verify

You enter your NIN once on an encrypted screen. It is sent straight to our licensed verification partner over an encrypted connection and checked against the national record.

We receive back a yes/no result and a reference number. We then store the minimum: the result, the reference, the last 4 digits and a one-way hash used only to detect duplicate accounts.

  • We do not store your full NIN.
  • We do not display your NIN anywhere in the app.
  • We do not share your NIN with customers, taskers, employers or any other user.
  • Taska staff cannot look up your NIN — only the verification status.

What other people see

On your public profile, other users see a single badge: ✓ NIN Verified. That is all. They never see the number, the last 4 digits, the reference or the date of birth used in the check.

What verification does NOT mean

A NIN check confirms that you are who you say you are. It is NOT a criminal record check, a background check, a licence check or a guarantee of good conduct, skill or safety.

Always use your own judgement, keep communication and payment inside Taska, and report anything that feels wrong.

Never share your NIN with another user

Taska will never ask for your NIN in a chat message, by email, by phone or through a link sent to you. Anyone who does is attempting fraud — report them.

Removing verification

You can ask us to remove your verification record in Settings → Privacy & Security. Some verification metadata may be retained for fraud prevention as explained in the Privacy Policy.
